Mafumeira field is situated in Block 0, around 24 km offshore Cabinda Province. It is located at a water depth of 60m. It’s the second phase of developing the Mafumeira field; in the first phase, the northern section of the area was established that started its production in mid-2009. Today, it is producing around 40,000 barrels of oil each day. Chevron wanted to enhance production capacity in Block 0, so it decided to develop the southern section of the field and made an investment of more than 5 billion dollars.
This project is a significant landmark, and it includes two wellhead platforms and a central processing facility. It also contains 16 water injection wells and 34 producing wells. So, far it has been a growing field, and in 2018, it produced 52,000 barrels of oil and 147 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. The production began in 2016, and it kept on increasing due to continuous improvements.
This project is of extreme importance for not only Chevron but Angola as well. Through this project, the company has been able to increase its production capacity, and it is also helping the country’s oil and gas industry to develop. Through this project, they are providing significant benefits to the country’s economy and are creating a substantial number of job opportunities. They are supporting local businesses and use local goods and services, helping dozens of companies to grow.
The company is also working to increase health awareness in the country, and so far, they have saved many lives. They are working with different organizations to educate people regarding HIV/AIDS; they want the people to know how they can prevent and fight it. Furthermore, they have funded millions of dollars to raise health awareness and providing better health opportunities to the people of Angola.
They are also committed to protecting the environment. Since 2006, they have worked with the association partners and have invested in different projects to maintain environmental equality.
